Theme: Walking with the Lord
Welcome to the year 2022! I especially am still in awe that time has flown by so quickly and we are on the 11th day of January already. Time surely waits for no one and we have the Lord Almighty to praise for his mercies that endures forever.
The Pandemic still looms on, but we are still here, alive and in this season; it must definitely be for a purpose. A lot of people have died both young and old not because they were unrighteous and we that are alive not because we are better than the ones that are gone to the land beyond; but it is only God that determines such instances. There is no doubt human error plays a factor in peoples’ early departure from this world which sometimes is predicated on human choices. The fact still remains the pandemic has changed our lives forever.
Why are you still here on planet earth one may ask? I hope your response will be ingrained in the knowledge that “God has a purpose for me” and until the purpose is fulfilled, I am not ready to depart. I am sure God will be elated that this child of mine knows I created him/her for an assignment. One of the ways we can fulfill the purpose of God is by walking with him; What does this mean?
The Bible mentions a man called Enoch in Genesis 5:21-24 AMP version when delineating the descendants of Adam when God created man. The verse states “21 When Enoch was sixty-five years old, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God three hundred years after the birth of Methuselah and had other sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24 And [in reverent fear and obedience] Enoch walked with God; and he was not [found among men], because God took him [away to be home with Him]”. Hebrews 11:5 NIV version says, “By faith, Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God”. From these two scriptural passages, walking with God entails the following:
- You must have a relationship with the Lord- meaning you must believe in his only begotten son Jesus Christ (John 3:16).
- You must walk in obedience to God like Enoch did (Gen. 5:24)
- You must have faith in God otherwise you will not please God (Heb 11:5&6)
- Fellowship entails prayers, praise, worship, thanksgiving, living in fear of the Lord and listening to the instruction of the Holy Spirit (Gen 5:22).
- Your walk with God must be habitual, that is, on a constant basis, there must be consistency, this must be your lifestyle as a child of God (Gen5:22).
Why is walking with God so crucial at this time? It is because, at the end of our sojourn here on earth, we will give an account of the life he has given us. What we have done with the gift of his Son Jesus (accepting or rejecting the gift of salvation which was given for our redemption back to God) How we have lived our lives to bring people closer to God or further away from him (Ministry of reconciliation) and How we have benefited humanity (blessed to be a blessing).
I am trusting the Lord that this year you will be intentional about your walk with the Lord and I also trust that as we journey in the exposition of the theme for this year, there will be more light and transformation taking place in our lives. We will never get to a place, status, or position in our lives that we will not need God; as long as we have his life in us, we are indebted to knowing him still we see him in glory.
I encourage you to get your plan set, have a system, and let us get started. Thank you for all your encouragement through the years. God’s continual blessings.
